Almost have time to be in a production? Consider auditioning for "Almost, Maine"!

It can be said of pretty much anyone, but if there’s one thing most theatre people have in common, it’s lack of time. Whether it be due to school, work, family, or other responsibilities, one’s involvement in theatre often comes down to deciding what you have to sacrifice.

Rehearsals, especially for productions that include vocals and dance numbers, can take up a significant amount of rehearsal time. Sometimes, that commitment is just too much… And represents a barrier to entry for anyone considering dipping their toes into the world of theatre. For anyone in that position, I encourage you to keep reading and consider auditioning for KVTA's upcoming production of Almost, Maine.

What makes Almost, Maine different from most plays is that it is not a singular story, but rather a string of vignettes held together only by the fact that they all take place in the almost-town of Almost (a place too small to be a town, but too populated to not have a name), and that each scene focuses on a different aspect of love and the hazards people encounter in its pursuit. The play consists of 19 characters, and while actors could be double, triple, or even quadruple-cast, the intent of KVTA’s production is to cast each role separately. Because no character appears again in any other scene, it represents a unique opportunity for anyone wishing to be cast in a named role, but not be overwhelmed by rehearsals.

Ultimately, the director will determine the specific rehearsal schedule, but I have it on good authority (from the director, himself, Josh Hedding-Hess) that the schedule will focus on allowing actors to come to rehearse for just their scene, and leave, rather than potentially waiting around for their turn while other scenes run long. Almost, Maine rehearsal times can be blocked out in advance, with scenes in any order, more easily accommodating schedules and availability, ensuring a more efficient use of everyone's time.

So, not sure if you can afford the time it takes to commit to a show? This is your chance! Almost, Maine auditions are Thursday & Friday, December 5 & 6, beginning at 6 p.m., with callbacks on Saturday, December 7.
