Countdown To Opening Night!
URINETOWN ~ A sidesplitting sendup of greed, love, revolution (and musicals!), in a time when water is worth its weight in gold.
Winner of three Tony Awards, three Outer Critics Circle Awards, two Lucille Lortel Awards and two Obie Awards, Urinetown is a hilarious musical satire of the legal system, capitalism, social irresponsibility, populism, environmental collapse, privatization of natural resources, bureaucracy, municipal politics, and musical theatre itself! Hilariously funny and touchingly honest, Urinetown provides a fresh perspective on one of America's greatest art forms.
In a Gotham-like city, a terrible water shortage, caused by a 20-year drought, has led to a government-enforced ban on private toilets. The citizens must use public amenities, regulated by a single malevolent company that profits by charging admission for one of humanity's most basic needs. Amid the people, a hero decides that he's had enough and plans a revolution to lead them all to freedom!
Inspired by the works of Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill, Urinetown is an irreverently humorous satire in which no one is safe from scrutiny. Praised for reinvigorating the very notion of what a musical could be, Urinetown catapults the "comedic romp" into the new millennium with its outrageous perspective, wickedly modern wit and sustained ability to produce gales of unbridled laughter.
Lap sitting is not permitted as every person must have their own ticket. No children under 3 will be permitted. No refunds or exchanges. All sales are final.

ANTICIPATED REHEARSAL TIMES:
Please note that this is very much an ensemble production. “Ensemble” members of the cast (“The Poor”) will have more rehearsals than the leads/principals since they are in almost every song, almost every dance, and almost every scene. See the SCENE CHART to get a clearer picture of this.
Rehearsals will start the week of June 16, 2025. During June and July, individual cast members can expect to have rehearsal no more than three times per week. During most of August, individual cast members can expect to have rehearsal no more than four times per week. At the end of August and in September, the full cast can expect to have rehearsal five times per week. While we are learning vocals, choreography/movement, and blocking, not all actors will be needed at all rehearsals; although, again, it is an ensemble production, so most cast members will be at most rehearsals. Once we begin running the acts, rehearsals will be full cast.
Please list all conflicts that you have Monday-Friday, from 6:00-9:00 pm, and Saturday from 9:00am-noon and 1:00-4:00pm, June 18 through September 6. We will not rehearse during all of those time slots every week; those are simply the possible time slots. Conflicts will not preclude you from being cast; they are needed for us to develop a rehearsal schedule, which will be based on cast and staff availability. Attendance during Tech Week (September 8-14) is mandatory.
Rehearsal dates are subject to change. We want to have all of the cast at ALL of our final tech rehearsals, so please be open and honest when completing your conflict calendar. Please be sure to list all of your conflicts from the audition date through the final performance date. If you have any questions about the information provided here, please email the Director, Sharla Ronchetto, at kvta.sharla@gmail.com.
