Countdown To Opening Night!

MATILDA ~ The story of an extraordinary girl who dares to take a stand and change her own destiny. Inspired by the twisted genius of Roald Dahl, the Tony Award-winning Roald Dahl's Matilda The Musical is the captivating masterpiece from the Royal Shakespeare Company that revels in the anarchy of childhood, the power of imagination and the inspiring story of a girl who dreams of a better life. With book by Dennis Kelly and original songs by Tim Minchin, Matilda has won 47 international awards and continues to thrill sold-out audiences of all ages around the world.

Matilda is a little girl with astonishing wit, intelligence and psychokinetic powers. She's unloved by her cruel parents but impresses her schoolteacher Miss Honey. During her first term at school, the two forge a bond as Miss Honey begins to recognize and appreciate Matilda's extraordinary personality. Matilda's school life isn't completely smooth sailing, however – the school's mean headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, hates children and just loves to punish those who don't abide by her rules. But Matilda has courage and cleverness in equal amounts, and could be the school pupils' saving grace!

Packed with high-energy dance numbers, catchy songs and an unforgettable star turn for a young actress, Matilda is a joyous, girl power romp. Children and adults alike will be thrilled and delighted by the story of the special little girl with an extraordinary imagination.

Lap sitting is not permitted as every person must have their own ticket. No children under 3 will be permitted. No refunds or exchanges. All sales are final.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

The time has come to sign up for your Matilda audition! On behalf of the entire staff, we are very excited for our auditions in December! We want to thank all of you in advance for your interest in auditioning for our production. We know it is going to be a very difficult casting process because you are all going to be amazing! This is the full adult production, not the Junior version, so we encourage young people, teens, and adults to audition. Please come prepared to auditions by having your audition form and conflict calendar sheets already completed, by reading and understanding the information provided below, by preparing your character, and by practicing your song selection and dance audition ahead of time. Yes, please bring your CHARACTER to your audition! There will be many auditioners, so give us everything you have during your time with us.

For the first few months of rehearsals, you can expect to have up to three rehearsals per week, with rehearsals typically beginning at 6 pm. While we may have a rehearsal or two in December, we expect to start rehearsing in January. Tech Week Rehearsals scheduled for April 4, 7, 8, 9, and 10 will start at 5 pm, and may end as late as 10 or 10: 30 pm. We will do everything in our power to end as early as possible each evening. However, with all of the added technical elements, certain scenes may require extra time and attention. We thank you in advance for your patience. During March and April, the rehearsal schedule will increase to four or five nights per week. The amount of time you will be at rehearsals will vary depending on your role. We may add a few weekend rehearsals, if needed. We want you to be aware of this information before you decide to audition. Rehearsal dates are subject to change. We want to have all of the cast at ALL of our final tech rehearsals, so please be open and honest when completing your conflict calendar. These mandatory tech week rehearsal dates are April 4, 7, 8, 9, and 10. Please be sure to list all of your conflicts from the audition date through the final performance date. If you have any questions about the information provided here, please email the Director, Courtney Stephens, at kvtamatilda@gmail.com.

We are looking to cast 25-35 people of all ages. There will be a youth ensemble and a teen/adult ensemble. Both ensembles will sing and dance. We would like to have pit singers, as well. Pit singers will sing offstage throughout the production.  Pit singers do not need to complete the audition dance.

While you may think there are not roles for older teens in this production, we beg to differ. We would love to have performers of all ages.

Can a young person, age 17 and under, audition for both Shrek JR and Matilda at KVTA? Yes, you can audition for Matilda first as these auditions will be before the Shrek JR auditions. However, if you are cast in Matilda, you cannot audition for Shrek JR. With only a few weeks in between these two productions, you'll have to choose one or the other as you cannot be in both. If you audition for Matilda and you are not cast, then you should absolutely 100% audition for Shrek JR!

This script very closely resembles Matilda the Musical that is now streaming on Netflix. You can also find inspiration for your character from the original Roald Dahl book, Matilda.

Great news! We want everyone to feel confident with their audition dance for Matilda, so we have added a dance workshop at the KVTA Studios (1 Stuart Dr Kankakee) on Sunday, December 1 at 1 pm. We encourage everyone ages 8 and up to audition for this production! While we will have some featured dancers, we need dancers of all skill levels, ages, and genders. Please ask if you have any questions or concerns. You do not have to be an expert dancer by any means for this production. Here is a short video of the Broadway cast which shows you this production is meant for older teens and adults, too. From 1:25 seconds through the end of this video you see snippets of the teen/adult ensemble. They’re incorporated throughout the show. Come join us December 1 to help prepare you for your audition.
