Countdown To Opening Night!
FIDDLER ON THE ROOF SR ~ Based on the award-winning, iconic Broadway classic of life in Czarist Russia, this universal drama is a true musical theatre tradition.
This special adaptation of the nine-time Tony Award-winning Broadway musical, Fiddler on the Roof SR. follows Tevye the milkman as he tries to protect his daughters and his way of life from a changing world. Created by Broadway legends Jerome Robbins, Harold Prince, Jerry Bock, Sheldon Harnick and Joseph Stein, Fiddler on the Roof SR. tackles the universal theme of tradition in ways that reach across barriers of race, class, nationality and religion.
Set in the little village of Anatevka, the story centers on Tevye, a poor dairyman, and his five daughters. With the help of a colorful and tight-knit Jewish community, Tevye tries to marry off his daughters and instill in them a sense of tradition in the face of growing anti-Semitism in Czarist Russia.
Fiddler on the Roof SR. is a great introduction - or reintroduction - to the world of musical theatre, giving performers an opportunity to connect with a timeless classic. With iconic and beloved songs such as "Sunrise, Sunset," "If I Were a Rich Man" and "Matchmaker, Matchmaker," Fiddler on the Roof SR. is the perfect mix of audience-pleasing humor and heart.
Lap sitting is not permitted as every person must have their own ticket. No children under 3 will be permitted. No refunds or exchanges. All sales are final.

A note from the Director, Marsha Hill...
Hello there! Thank you for considering joining the concept of Seniors in Theatre! I'm excited for you to have as much fun putting together this production of Fiddler on the Roof SR as we've had in preparing for it. The goal is to bring a flexible approach to help cast members become characters and tell a story while having a good time. Our success will not be based on "critics reviews" but rather on the level of joy, excitement, and bonding that develops while learning what "life in the theatre" can provide.
Please know that rehearsals in May will just be for a first read and sing through: one or two at the most. In June, we will have approximately 2 per week. In July, we will increase to 3 or 4, as needed. Not everyone will be needed at some rehearsals until we get closer to tech week. We are auditioning early because it is a new program. Please consider joining the fun. Alumni are welcome! Please contact me if you have questions!
The developers created the phrase "recreational theatre" which is designed for some who may not have auditioned in a long time, or those who "always wanted" to be in a show!
The key approach isn't for critics, but for family, friends, and most importantly for fun!
The show has been shortened from the original... difficult scenes were eliminated as well as some solos, and lines are shorter. Even so, it is still a play with an upbeat message about the importance of beliefs, customs, community, family and love. It is a show that touches peoples' hearts.
There are no difficult "dance" numbers. Auditions are not painful. Please be familiar with the opening song, "Tradition." Look over the small scenes provided on the KVTA website. You do not need to memorize the lines and speeches for auditions. Please know that we will be as flexible as possible in scheduling rehearsals. Select from the two audition dates and times posted. We look forward to welcoming you!
Cast members are required to provide the following personal items: shoes, socks, and stage makeup. In addition, cast members may be asked to supply other items such as: leotards, tights, etc. Optional expenses include: a digital download from the production, a picture CD, apparel items, production party attendance, cast/staff chill times, etc. PLEASE NOTE: Child care is not available during rehearsals and performances. Cast and staff members are not permitted to bring their children, or any additional family members, to rehearsals. All rehearsals are closed to the public unless otherwise stated. All KVTA facilities are smoke-free, alcohol-free, and drug-free. Anyone found to be in violation of these policies may be removed from the production.
