the jungle book ~ ArtReach’s new script is an adaptation of Rudyard Kipling’s classic, The Jungle Book, which contains stories and poems set in the jungle of India. It has been the basis for countless popular films, plays and books and has become a beloved story for young people worldwide. ArtReach’s School Play Script simplifies and shortens the material to create a play that is fun and easy for a large group of kids to perform. It also includes lots of audience participation to give everyone a taste of jungle life.

TO THE PARENTS:

Come and join us in the jungle! Kankakee Valley Theatre Association is excited to bring this classic book to life. Please note that this adaptation is not the Disney version and is not a musical.

October rehearsals will be 3 to 4 times per week (there will be a mandatory cast/parent meeting at 6:30 pm on September 27, 2022). November rehearsals might be every night, depending on how well the cast is doing at that time. Rehearsal dates are subject to change. We want to have the entire cast at ALL of our final tech rehearsals, so please be open and honest when completing your auditioner’s conflict calendar. These dates are November 11, 14, 15, and 16. Please be sure to fill out all of the conflicts for your child from the audition date through the final performance date. If you have any questions about the information provided here, please ask ahead of time by emailing the Director, Paula Sutter, at kvtajunglebook22@gmail.com.

PARENTS: The characters in this play may possibly be on stage and/or visible throughout most of the show. It is important that your child is able to stay focused and quiet for long periods of time.

Additional information you need if your child is cast in this production:

  1. At least one parent must become a general member (minimum $28).

  2. Parents are required to complete 10 hours of volunteer time for each child cast.

  3. Cast members must miss two days of school to perform for our school performances.

  4. There will be a parent/cast meeting on Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at 6:30 pm at KVTA. At least one parent must attend.

  5. You will need to sign your child up for a costume fitting as soon as the cast list is posted. A link to sign up will be sent to you after casting.

  6. Cast members are required to provide the following personal items: shoes, socks, stage makeup. Also, they may be asked to supply additional items such as leotards, tights, etc. Optional expenses are the purchase of a show DVD, a picture CD, apparel items, cast party, etc.

We will be looking for kids who are animated, creative with characterization and comfortable acting as an animal. There will be audience interaction with this play so we will also be looking for actors who aren’t afraid to improvise and “play” with the audience. We will be adding two of the Jungle Book songs at the end of the show but they are not part of the play. We are also adding a character (Rudyard Kipling) at the beginning to open the show.
