Murder Mysteries:

If Books Could Kill

By Eileen Moushey

It’s a convention of romance writers, all contenders for the LoveKnot Book of the Year Award, given by Heartthrob Books. Among the nominated authors are two spinster sisters, a young prodigy and her overbearing mother, a British aristocrat, a rude and obnoxious social climber, and a rough and tough dude and his bimbo girlfriend. Editor Benton Fish tries gamely to keep the award ceremonies civilized amid jealousies and rivalries. When the winner is announced and then abruptly murdered, it will be up to the amateur detectives to vote for whom they think "dunit." This mystery has multiple endings -- whoever receives the most votes will, indeed, be the killer. Each character has a solution scene. There is no clue hunt, but an intermission during which the cast circulates among the audience, in order to be personally interrogated.  Recommended for adult audiences only.  If Books Could Kill by Eileen Moushey is produced by special arrangement with Mysteries by Moushey, Inc.

We have performed this during dinner parties.  Actors are present as audience members arrive and actually eat with the guests.  After dinner is done, the actors get on stage and begin the award ceremony.  Once the murder takes place, there is a break (usually during dessert) and the audience votes on the suspect they feel is guilty of murder.  We have also done this without a dinner, just serving dessert at the break.

You will need to arrange the catering.  We only supply the entertainment.

The Wedding From Hell

By Eileen Moushey

You’ve been to weddings where something goes wrong? Try everything. Bruce and Tina face it all. The groom’s snobbish, aristocratic mother, Sylvia, registers her disapproval of the nuptials by wearing black and attempting to dissuade him from the marriage even as the Bridal March begins. The soloist looks as if he’s a Guns And Roses groupie. The judge hired to perform the ceremony is drunk. The wrong tux was delivered to the bride’s father, Jackie, who tries to ease the tension by trying out some of the gags from his novelty store (including a whoopie cushion for Sylvia). The photographer is an old boyfriend of Tina’s. Bruce’s old girlfriend interrupts the wedding. The family maid uses the ceremony to declare her love for the groom. The cake is a mess. Tina’s dress came from a thrift store, due to a last minute mixup. She breaks the heel from her shoe as she comes down the aisle. The wedding napkins read "Bruce and Tuna." A stranger shows up in time to die.  The Wedding From Hell by Eileen Moushey is produced by special arrangement with Mysteries by Moushey, Inc.

This mystery is done as a "dinner" theatre.  It is recommended for an adult audience.  The audience participates in a clue hunt to help solve the murder.  This is one wedding you won't want to miss!

  10-15 Minute Skits:

The Philadelphia

A “Philadelphia” is a reference to a “state of Karma….bad Karma.”  The skit takes place in a restaurant.  One man is experiencing a series of odd, negative personal interactions and cannot explain it.  The waitress has the answers.

The Ferris Wheel

Dorie is having a birthday and wants to experience something that frightens her.  She is on a ferris wheel, which has her in a state of panic.  John is the unsuspecting seat partner.

As the Stomach Turns (Carol Burnett Skit)

Join Grandpa, Marian, Cindy, Ralph, Ralph’s 4th Wife, & the Priest as they all get together for another episode of “As the Stomach Turns”.  Grandpa’s wheels are spinning faster than he can move.  Is Ralph going to move on to Wife #5 when Cindy moves herself into Marian’s house?

The Welfare Worker (Carol Burnett Skit)

Harry and Stella are caught off guard when the welfare worker drops by unexpectedly.  After sixteen years of being on welfare, can they convince her they are still in great need?

The Old Folks (Carol Burnett Skit)

Bert and Molly show us that there are still thrills when you’re in your 90’s.

Passion on 10th Avenue (Carol Burnett Skit)

Harry has his hands full with Gertie, an overly jealous wife.  Just how far will Gertie go to keep her husband all to herself?

In addition to the murder mystery and skits, we also have performers who can entertain you vocally.  Just let us know what type of music you would like to tie into your party theme.
